Ft. Lbs. vs HP.

has anyone ever rated the difference between the electric trolling motor Ft.Lbs. to Hp. of an outboard kicker. when you get them to the same thing then you can really compare. there has to be a formula. but i ain't that smart.

1 FtLb per second = .0018 hp.

A 55 FtLb troller is .1 hp. (point 1)

Would it really be any different than comparing them based on power?

volts x amps = power (watts)

power (HP) / 746 = power (watts)

As for calculating thrust, as you know trolling motors use extremely high thrust props. For example, a 9.9hp (7400 watt) Merc Sailpower is spec'd at 207 lbs of static thrust in forward. A 36v, 98 amp Minn Kota (3500 watt) is spec'd at 202 lbs.

I am not that great with math but I will add my 2cents!
60 foot pound per second (ft·lbf/s) = 0.1090909090909 hp, 550 foot pound per second (ft·lbf/s)= 1hp But I could be wrong!:/

Trolling motors are not rated in foot pounds, they are rated in thrust pounds. Not the same thing.

Comparing power used (volts x amps) to HP would make sense, but even then you would be using power input rather than power output.
