fuel bulb half full or half empty?

I am fairly new to boating and am trying to figure out a throttle problem(post wont throttle up,rsw21282) I have seen a few posts about the primer bulb being firm, my question is how firm? mine is usually about half full during low eng rpm operation, is that norm? should be hard? anyway besides this question having an 85hp force is a 5/16 fuel line with external tank hookup supply enough fuel at full throttle?

Primer bulbs are normally soft when the motor is running and your fuel line is fine. I would suspect your carbs need rebuilding.

Remember that the fuel pump is sucking fuel from the tank through the bulb. Therefore, you can not expect the bulb to be hard, as it is when you prime the carbs, while the engine is running. HOWEVER, if the bulb itself is starting to collapse any amount, that indicates a restriction in the fuel line between the bulb and the tank. Even at full throttle, the bulb should maintain its football shape.
