Just got a new one and it is 5/16 as per my model number (j70TLERC). However, the one installed is larger. Should I change all fuel lines to 5/16 or is 5/16 wrong for this engine?

Didn't get a respond on last thread, but I got it resolved. Hope you can help me in this issue.

Thanks all...

I just read on the internet that it doesn't matter. So, I'll chnage all lins to 5/16. The one from the tank too.

Thanks all.

5/16 is correct for your engine but if it's larger then it's 3/8 (read: 6/16), which is fine too. New fuel lines are going to run you 1.99-4.99/ft depending on where you go and a bulb costs less than $10. It would be easier and cheaper to just get a 3/8 bulb unless your lines are rotted and in need of replacement.

I already have the bulb, so I think the lines are old, so I'll replace them. I assume from the tank to the fuel filter?

Is that correct? Will 5/16 fit the fittings?

Thanks

They will fit. If you're going to do any of them you should do all of them- tank to bulb, bulb to filter, filter to pump, pump to manifold (splitter for the carbs), manifold to carbs, and the tiny lines around various other things. Just be really careful with the old plastic nipples once you get past the fuel pump, especially the tiny ones that the 1/16th hoses slip over as they can be really really brittle. They might break on you no matter how careful you are. Every plastic piece you touch will likely break but they're only a few dollars. Before dismantling or cutting be sure you've searched out replacement fuel hoses in matching sizes for everything from the fuel pump on. For example I had a really hard time finding 1/16 fuel hose for mine, even at dealerships.

Unless you're experiencing problems like routinely clogged carbs it seems like a lot of extra work though. It would be just asking for a hard to diagnose problem in the future if you only do part of the fuel lines.
