1987 CVX 18 (Glastron/Carlson). Removed the fuel cell yesterday. Boat has not been registered since 03'. Need to clean the cell, about 5 gallons of nasty old fuel remaining (good thing!, 27 gallon tank!). What is the best way to clean the cell. It is aluminum. Should I clean the sender unit separately.

Lots of ways to skin that cat, but depending on what's left in the tank, you could drain it completely, add some strong detergent, like Purple Power, and some pea gravel or nuts and bolts, shake it around for a while to knock all the crud off, wash it out with fresh water real well. Repeat the process, if necessary. The gravel/nuts and bolts are great for sorta polishing up the interior of tank. After you get done, better install a fuel/water separator to catch any water or debris. Good Luck!
