Fuel coming from accelerator pump lines when priming?

1989 mariner 100 hp 2+2. Should fuel come out of the accelerator pump lines that are running towards the back portions of the bottom cylinders when priming? I know motors just not a 2 stroke outboard. Questioning wether I have he start procedure figured out or not. Let it sit for 10 minutes and I gotta pump up the primer bulb. Fuel is dumping from the accelerator pump lines into the cylinders. Bulb never gets rock hard. I can continue to pump past firm and flood the cylinders. Pump up until firm then a couple squeezes past that and it'll crank and run fine.

No fuel lines should be leaking anywhere on that motor. Are you sure it's not your primer lines leaking.

The line doesn't leak but gets pumped into the cylinder via the accelerator pump lines. Don't know if that's supposed to happen or not. Would think not.

The two lower carbs do not have idle circuits. Those cyls do not fire at idle and very low throttle settings. The accelerator pump squirts fuel to those cyls when the throttle is opened. At the end of those hoses there are poppet valves that SHOULD stop any fuel flow until the accelerator pump stroke raises fuel pressure more than the minimum cracking pressure of the poppet valve. Sorry, I don't remember that number, it is listed in the service manual.

The primer bulb only needs a firm handshake, any further pressure can overcome the needle/seat seal of the carbs and cause flooding.

Most likely the poppets as dirty and the valves are not sealing. You may try cleaning them with a very fine solvent, like the WalMart Super Tech Carb cleaner. It is one of the cheapest, yet one of the best carb cleaning solvents available.

The 2+2 system once adjusted to perfection works quite well. I still miss my old Fish and Ski with the 2 + 2.

Thanks charlieb. Ill pull the popett valves out and try to clean them. Should fuel be moving through the accelerator pump when priming? Is the accelerator pump rebuildable?
