Fuel connectors

New to the forum and picked up an old Scott 12 HP (1960) with an oddball connector i've seen before (new to this outboard thing). Can you tell me the best way to retrofit this? can i go with a modern style setup in hooking up the tank to the motor. The long prong (male end) deal is motoe side, plastic (female) tank side.
i'll try and include a pic of all this.
