Just a quick question: does anyone know the fuel consumption of a '67 johnson 33hp at WOT? at idle?

Re: fuel consumption johnson 33hp

Thanks. I was out on the lake today for about 2.5 hours and must have used about 4 gallons, running at idle/no wake for about 1 hour and running at cruise and wot for about about 30 or 40 minutes. I traveled a total of about 12 1/4 miles according to the gps. Does this sound right?

I have the 33 on a 14 foot glasspar lido, about 700-800 pounds (boat, motor, gear, and myself)

The responses help me estimate fuel usage for a day of fishing at the chain o' lakes here in Illinois. There's a lot of lake(s) to cover and only one free boat ramp. May be worth it to get another fuel tank.

I just picke dup teh same motor and many of the members have helped me with fixing the spark problem. I just got back for walmart and got a new fuel line and plastic tank. I have the old metal one but i wanted to have 2 and for 16$ why not. My jetski uses about 5-7 gallons an hour. YA it sucks but its fun.

Yup. Two tanks, for sure. When the first one is empty, it's time to start working your way back toward the launch, while still enjoying your activities.

If I'm going anywhere I can't call for help or paddle in, I carry at least 30% more than what I expect to burn - and I also greatly exaggerate that. If I was only carrying 2 tanks, I'd turn back before the first one was empty. If I'm going really remote, I carry 5 gallon jerry cans, enough to get me home if I run the built in tanks dry having too much fun.

I've never been sorry I carried too much gas.

I think that wind/wave conditions can make a big difference in mileage.

Only time I ever ran out of fuel, I was coming in from the Chesapeake Bay,
and the wind and waves had picked up pretty good that afternoon. Ran out
of gas 1 mile from the launch, and got my paddle out. Luckily, some good
samaritans in a houseboat from Essex gave us a tow back. They wouldn't
take any payment for the tow. Really great folks!

I doubt if anybody has done any tests on mileage difference between calm
water and high winds and waves. I believe there is a big difference.

Always carry some extra fuel, be prepared for the unexpected.

Ya the wind and waves deffinitay have an effect. I am onley going to use my 14 footer on the river behin dmy house and ill have the trollong motor and some pattles in case. But their is always people that help out. I have my oun lawnch in the center of teh river so i have about a mile on each side so its not a huge river.
Ill cary an extra gallon of mixed gas anyway.

I always have more than I need with me. Because you just never know when the "more than you need" becomes needed.

Re: fuel consumption johnson 33hp

I got another 3 gallon tank (9 gallons total). I've had the boat out the past few weeks and have not had any worries with running out of fuel. Actually, after a couple of adjustments to the needle valves, I've been getting pretty good fuel consumption (averaging about 2 gph both at idle and wot).
