I've rebuild carbs for two motorcycles (4 carbs total) so I'm not completely shooting in the dark. I can't find a manual for the demon carb like I can for the Holley. Honestly just an exploded view would be helpful but still can't find that. They don't even have this carb listed on the Demon website.

So I'm out running it over and over from a stop and Im pretty baffled. Everything is strong but sucks from 1400-1600 rpm it wants to stall unless you pump the trottle. Accelerator valve works cuz if I manually push it it squirts gas. I mean it runs GREAT at every other rpm just struggles to get over the hump. Could it be simply bad gas? This tank is 10 months old

Has anyone used "marinecarburators.com" ? Seems like the have everything and the prices are reasonable. Also all the 2300's I see online the gas inlet is in the opposite side. Thet seem to have ones with the inlet on the starboard side

So I was out today and it started acting up again. I looked down at my gage and i have no fuel pressure again. Got towed in and put it back in the driveway and just for my own curiosity i started it and it ran fine. Completely confused. then after about 2 mins of idling it see the fuel pressure started to fall off and it dies again. Now i have 0 fuel pressure again. I just can't imagine I went thru a 3rd fuel pump. I can hear it working but i can't get any fuel pressure. This is just a completely frustrating confusing mess.

And i know people are going to say "put a mechanical pump back on" but i'm not going to spend amount of money they want for those if its just going to go out too. there has to be something else going on here.

Is the vent for your gas tank working? Have you done the fuel system troubleshooting that in the stickies?

Yes I have run the diagnostic from the stickeys and I know it's not the vent because I ran it with the gas cap off and it didn't help. I'm at a complete loss for where to go from here.

What was your vacuum reading?

Vacuum was 3 inHG . Which i know is below what Don S says in his stickey but it was running fine when i first installed it and would maintain 8psi fuel pressure even at WOT so i was pleased.

So after sleeping on it i decided to use the vacuum gage to try and decipher if anything in the fuel system was causing a differential pressure/drop in vacuum and something interesting happened.....

So i ended the day with the motor running for a while, fuel pressure fading to 0 then the engine dieing and unable to remain running..... Started today with 8psi fuel pressure and her running like a dream. Completely confused... none the less....

1. Installed the vacuum gage between the fuel filter and the pump and had 8psi and 3 inHG
2. Ran it for 2 to 3 more mins to see if i could recreate the drop in pressure and sure enough the pressure started dropping to 4 psi but i still had 3 inHG
3. With the fuel pressure gage almost on 0 now i still had 3 inHG
4. Cut the boat off and relocated the vacuum gage to before the fuel filter and even with 0 psi on the fuel pressure gage she started up and i had 2 inHG before the filter.
5. put the test "T" fitting in place of the fuel filter and started it up and with the fuel pressure at 0psi the vacuum gage read 1.5 inHG
6. Put the system back to how i had it pre-test and ran it again just kinda of contemplating and she cut off and would start but for a second again. Put the vacuum gage back into the system between the fuel filter and the pump and turned the pump on and cranked the motor and got 0psi fuel pressure and 0 inHG

So i know that i have two variables in the my test so its pretty much worthless but it did give me some interesting observations. It appears to me that the pump is bad but for the life of me i can't explain it. This will be number 3, and this one had less than an hour runtime on it. Also, why would it start strong and fade?

You should fix the restriction, 3" is too much and will cause electric pumps to cavitate.

So is 2 inches too much? because that extra inch was caused by the moisture separator which I can remove and replace with a standard filter. also is it possible that my moisture separator is too high? I have it mounted about 18 inches i'd say above the pickup (maybe 12 above the tank).

And is it possible that when the pump starts to cavitate is the fall off i'm seeing because it can't recover? the vacuum doesn't build with time like its becoming more clogged......

And does a mechanical pump handle more vacuum because I have one on order.

I dont think the problem is a clogged pickup just because of how easy I can get it to syphon. And I can't blow air into it because theres a one way valve on the outlet hose on the tank.

Got home, bypassed the moisture separator and put my vacuum gage in its place at an elevation below the stock pump elevation... 0 vacuum 0 pressure. Pump has got to be toast. I don't understand why Don S said electric pumps for out boards are capable of double the vacuum I had w/o failure
