Doing a search on this topic revealed that many choose an electric motor for their canoes, however I wanted to find out if I had the possbility to mount a low HP Fuel outboard on my canoe. With the proper bracket, may I do so? What is the largest size motor I should consider? I'd also like to be able to use this motor on a rowboat/jon boat I'd like to buy in a few years, therefore I'd like to keep my options open. I'd also like a motor with a built in gas tank.

Thanks all!

I'd recommend the Honda BF2 (2 horsePower). It's 4 stroke (no oil mixing), it only weighs 27 lbs, and it packs a pretty impressive kick. It also has the internal fuel tank you are looking for.

My brother has one...on a canoe, it flat out flies.
(If you run wide open) :) We put it on a 12 ft John boat and it moved it pretty good as well. (It wont plane it of course, but if does move it along fast enough to generate a wake).

They are kind of pricey if you buy it new, but on the used market, they aren't that bad. Reliability and lifespan compensates for the higher cost if you ask me.

Nav
