I just acquired a 1991 Trophy 20' walk around cuddy with a 1998 Johnson 175HP V6. I know it is a gas hog. Does anyone know what RPM range would yield the best fuel economy?

Re: Fuel Economy

about 2/3 -- but all boats are gas hogs regardless what engine you have. It's the nature of the beast.

Ahmen--but I can get 8 trips on 28 gallons--if I only run 3 miles to where i'm going to fish--and 3 miles back--with a few resets thrown in:)

Re: Fuel Economy

Check: Yamaha Outboard Performance Bulletins, plug in your boat/motor for a chart showing GPH, MPG, MPH at each RPM setting. My 90HP gets best fuel efficiency about 3500RPM's which is just past full plane. Check it out and good luck!:)

Re: Fuel Economy

That motor is really not that bad on fuel as its the looper not the crossflow. Just make sure engine is in operating rpm range at WOT and not lugging and as posted earlier about the 3000-3600 range is usually the best...
