Fuel Filter Bowl Removal

I have a small Racor water separating fuel filter on my boat. The plastic bowl unscrews to remove it. Not easy to do - I had to use one of those strap wrenches to get it off today. It turned stiffly allmost all the way down (way past the point where the "O" ring lost contact).

Is there some sort of lube that can go on the threads to make unscrewing the bowl easier? The boat was on the trailer today - I'm not sure I could manage the removal at sea in a rocking boat.

I put it back with some 2-stroke oil on the threads and "O" ring, but it still didn't turn easy.

I use "Water Lube," otherwise used to grease swimming pool valves. Super heavy, clear, stays put. I hope you replaced the filter while you were at it.

Yes, it's silicone. Mine is actually called Aladdin "Magic Lube II" silicone lubricant/sealant, out of Sarasota, FL.
