Fuel Filter Conflict

Hi,
I've received two different part numbers for my fuel filter. After checking both parts on-line, they look significantly different, so I don't want to be in the middle of winterizing my boat and find that I have the wrong part. I almost ordered both just to be sure I had the right one, but first... I thought I'd post my question here and hope for a solid answer. I've learned a ton by reading Q&A threads here and know someone out there will have an answer for me.

My boat is an 1986 Larson 190. The engine is a Merc 140hp. Model # MCM140, 181 CID. I can provide the serial number if needed.

What fuel filter do I need? There are two, one at the pump and one at the carb. I'm looking for the pump filter.

Thanks,
Doug

Re: Fuel Filter Conflict

Does your pump have a fuel bowl facing up or down.

Click on the thumbnail pictures below. The first one is up, the second is down.

Re: Fuel Filter Conflict

My local West Marine is insisting that I need Sierra part 18-7784 for my fuel pump filter.

I've looked for pictures of both 18-7784 and 49088Q2 and they do not look alike. So it's not a cross-listing issue. Is there a Sierra number for 49088Q2 that I can ask West Marine about?

Thanks,
Doug
