I have a 97' 5.7 V8. I was told there is a fuel filter inside the carb. Does anyone know specifically where it is located.

Remove fuel line at carb, then remove the part the fuel line attaches to its behind that and usually spring behind the filter.

Depends on which carb you have, you may not even have one.

on my 1988 Mercruiser 4.3 LX, its Rochester QuadraJet 4 barrel carburetor is like Gittenther said, its a small cartridge inside the fitting that attaches the metal fuel line to the carb body. Its small, about 3/4 inch by 1 inch or so. Mine also has a primary filter under the deck between fuel pump and tank just in front of the engine, as well as another small filter screwed into the intake side of my electric fuel pump.

My 1988 4.3 liter does not have on in the carb. Since 1989 I had been having a bogging down and dying out problem. I had over 8 professional major tunes and still no fix. Today I discovered the fuel filter on top of the fuel pump had never been changed. Still had the wire with original factory paint holding the screw still. It's easy to get to and is a stone type that can be cleaned.
