Fuel Filter Replacement Interval

My manual says to replace my fuel filter yearly. Do I really need to replace it every year or can I get by replacing it every other year? 1988 Ford 2.3 litre.

its a couple of bucks..replace it yearly and never worry about it...no big deal

You need to change every year you will be amazed at what it filters out of your fuel. I always buy two at a time plus much better to change at home and not on the water when you should be having fun..........

Water separating fuel filter? Yes, once a year at least....I always check mine halfway through the season. What MRS says is very true.....JK

My next question is how in the heck do I get the old one off! I could not get the thing to spin at all and it doesn't have the indentations on the end like an oil filter to grip on. Giant channel locks perhaps?<br /><br />fendersfender, where do you get them for couple of bucks? I paid $10 at autozone for a puralator part that they cross referenced from the OMC P/N in my owners manual.<br /><br />Thanks guys,<br />Al

$10 dollars is cheap preventative maintenance! There are all different kinds of tools to help take off filters, chains and strap. Be sure to put a thin layer of oil on the new gasket and don't over tighen it. <br /><br />Welcome to the world of boating, there isn't much that you can fix for $10 on a boat!!
