I run a 1989 Johnson 150 and a 1983 Honda 10 hp kicker on my 21' Seaswirl Striper. I have installed a fuel filter/water separater and have the fuel lines from both engines coming off this single filter. Is this a problem? Somebody told me I should have a switch to select which engine should get the fuel. Since both engines never run at the same time, I see no reason for the switch. Anybody have any experience with this?
Thanks
Kingfisher

Re: Fuel Filter/Water Separater

I think there is a good chance the 150hp can suck the fuel out of the line going to the Honda which could harm it if running both at the same time. But as you stated running one at a time .... if you came into port on the 150hp,and the Honda sat for a while "out" of gas it might be a problem.

The valve (switch) might be cheap insurance.

Maybe just pull the Honda fuel line when not in use ?

DHP

What about putting a primer in each line, wouldn't that act as a check valve for each motor, and help in starting?

Thanks to you both for your replies. There are primer bulbs in both fuel lines on the engine side of the filter. Hopefully that'll prevent the 150 from sucking the fuel from the Honda. I'll give it a try and let you know the results.
Thanks again for your comments.
Kingfisher

I would recommend you have an independant fuel source for your kicker. That way if you have a problem with the main tank, or fuel line you can still use your kicker. (speaking from experience)
