fuel filter/water separator, ???

I Just bought a parker fuel filter/water separator with the clear bowl on the bottom.<br />When I prime the fuel line the bowl fills with gas??? I thought the bowl was to stay dry untill water was extracted from the fuel,<br />Then you drain it out. How are you supposed to see when the water is to be drained??<br /><br />Thanks in advance<br /><br />marcus w/ 18'seaswirl (120 force outboard)

water heavier than fuel so it collects on bottom of bowl there by you can see it.........then drain it....

aaaaahhhhh..........so that's it, thanks for the info. so I guess the filter is ok and not defective. thanks again
