Fuel filter/water seperator question

Hello,

I will be installing a fuel filter/water seperator onto my Volvo 4 cylinder with a mechanical fuel pump. Does it matter whether it is installed before or after the fuel pump? I was planning on installing it before the pump, that way I do not have to cut the steel fuel line between the carb and fuel pump.

ALWAYS install it before the pump. That way it protects the pump from water. Plus, you don't ever want to cut the steel line.
