I replaced the fuel filter on my 97 3.0lx today

The filter that came out of the bowl was a pumice type stone.

The filter I ordered from dougrussell.com was what I'd call a regular filter, you know, "standard" paper media.

is one better than the other?

BTW, think it has been a while since this filter was replaced, there was what I'd call a fair amount of junk in the bowl. Glad I replaced it.

Re: Fuel Filter

What I would suggest, is install that paper filter, then go get a water seperating fuel filter kit with a 10 micron filter. Then you will not have to replace that pump filter again. You will also be protected against water which you are now NOT protected against.
With todays E fuels, it's a MUST Have item, not just a luxury item.
All engines from the factory have a water seperating fuel filter except a 3.0L. It's a cost cutting thing for entry level boats.

Re: Fuel Filter

Don I have definitely been considering that. Have one that you would suggest? I assume I do not need a model specific one?

I guess the 3.0LX didn't have them either.

Re: Fuel Filter

None of the 3.0L engines had them. Any kit will work, but I would suggest you find one local and be sure to get one you can get new spin on canister for.

Re: Fuel Filter

Good investment, I have one on my 2008 3.0TKS engine, and all other pre-filters after it inline have never had to be cleaned. Change out the filter every boat season.

Sierra, Rancor, Merc on and on brands, But its the filter that counts.
