Fuel Filter

I recently bought a 2004 Glastron Bowrider with a Volvo 130 I/O. It does not have a gas/water filter/ The mechanic suggested I install one to prevent future problems. I use Marine Stabil with the gas. Is this a good idea to be safe from future problems with gas issues? Thanks for your help.

Yes a water separating fuel filter helps prevent problems,but you should also know that a water separating filter will not stop all water,if it's to much water,just smaller amounts. That being said: I would put it in.

A water separator is a good idea. IMO Stabil with each fill up, is unnecessary

You can get just the spin on filter type(I have one on my I/O), or the spin on filter type with clear plastic bowl and drain. (I use an additional inline canister filter after the separator which I have on my outboard). I drain some of the site glass before every outing into a special container I have, in order to look for water. I highly recommend a separator. I had huge water issues this year and the separator really helped me sort through and monitor what I had going on. Ethanol fuels will help burn through some of the moisture it attracts to itself (so I've read), and the separator will help catch some of the moisture beyond that.

I installed mine on the front of engine mount that's the best place for it .

It's a very good idea to install a fuel/water separator.....best preventive maintenance item yet!....
