Fuel gauge doesn't work, jumps from E to F and just sweeps back and forth

Was this way when we got the boat. Any idea what would cause it to sweep back and forth?

The most likely cause would be a loose connection.

I agree with NYBo or possibly a bad ground as it's may be "hunting".

Mine goes from F to E fast.....but that's another story. I think the other guys are on to something.

Removed mine twice only to work a little while and third time found that female connecter that seemed tight on ground needed replaced and the brass male stab wire brushed shiney
