fuel gauge woes

I recently bought a electronic fuel gauge. It has positive and negative coming off the sender from the tank and additional ground on the gauge itself. I put a fuseable link in it, hit the power, blew a 30amp fuse and now the gauge does not work. Did I fry the gauge? It had no fuse instructions nor does it say to even put one in. Drag, any help would be appreciated. I have checked the power right from bow to stern and have power right to the gauge itself, but no fuel reading. Thanks.

Re: fuel gauge woes

You may have blown both the gauge AND the sender. Here is a diagram of how the system is wired. If you wired 12 volts to the sender it is probably toast. The threaded terminal on the sender goes to the "S" terminal on the gauge. The "I" (ignition) or "+" terminal on the gauge gets +12 volts when the key is on. Ground is ground. The metal shell of the sender in the tank must also be grounded.

off topic, but by chance are there other diagrams for other gauges like that?

Take a look at the the topics that are "sticky" at the top of the forum. ;)
