Do they make a Fuel Injector/Carb Cleaner gas additive that I could mix in my gas tank? If so, could somebody recommend a good one? I have an 89 Johnson 150 GT VRO. If not, could I use Automotive Fuel Injector/Carb Cleaner? Or would that do more harm than good? I definately don't want to screw the pooch on this!

If the carbs are cruddy, best thing to do is drop 'em and give them a thorough cleaning. If a piece of crud dislodges during use, it could plug a jet and trash a cylinder. Pennzoil makes a marine fuel stabilizer/cleaner, and SeaFoam also works well. But they aren't a solution if you think you've got junk in the carbs.

Ditto FPlug

Austinite26
I wouldn't put any automotive cleaner in your fuel system. You have way too much expensive rubber involved to be taking a chance on compatibility. (fuel pump, VRO, hoses, bleeder lines, lip seals etc.)
Destroying these components can write an engine off!!

Go the extra mile and get the recommended chemicals.

Good luck! :)

OMC/BOMB MAKES A CLEANER CALLED ENGINE TUNER WHICH IS GREAT FOR CLEANING CARBS AND YOUR ENGINE INTERNALLY YOU SHOULD HAVE A SCHRADER VALVE ON THE PRIMER SOLENOID WHICH YOU CAN HOOK THE CAN TO AND INJECT IT IN YOUR ENGINE IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ONE YOU CAN GET ONE FROM YOUR LOCAL DEALER FOR A FEW BUCKS THIS STUFF IS PROBABLY THE BEST CARB CLEANER ON THE MARKET BUT IT WILL NOT GET GUNK OUT OF YOUR CARBS OUNCE THEY ARE STOPPED UP THE ONLY WAY TO DO THAT IS TO REBUILD THEM IT IS MEANT AS A PEVENTIVE MEASURE NOT A FIX OUNCE YOU HAVE PROBLEMS THEY ALSO MAKE A PRODUCT CALLED CARBON GUARD THAT WORKS GREAT AT KEEPING YOUR ENGINE CLEAN .BUT BEWARE DO NOT USE AUTOMOTIVE FUEL SYSTEM CLEANERS OR ADDITIVES ON YOUR OUTBOARD IT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE STICK WITH THE PRODUCTS DESIGNED FOR YOUR ENGINE GOOD LUCK

Re: Fuel Injector/ Carb Cleaner

Hey, Thanks guys for the input. You all have been very helpful. I think I'm just going to take this in to a mechanic and have it serviced. I might have to shell out the Cash duckets $$$, but oh well. Maybe it'll prompt me to study my Clymer Shop Manual more often. Thanks again to you all.
