I'm putting this here because I will probably get better results.Gave my next door neighbor a 1968 ? 20 hp Chrysler and a omc tank and hose.Motor is rigged for omc tanks. He said motor ran great as long as you pumped the bulb. Some guy told him its the fuel pump, but I'm more concerned its the fuel hose bulb as with a different tank and hose it was running fine in the barrel.I believe its a faulty check valve in the bulb.

If it runs on a different hose and bulb but not on the one you gave him then I would tend to agree with you.

He said he had to constantly hit the bulb if not it would run maybe 10 seconds as I told him we ran it in the barrel for minutes with no issues.I knew there was a reason the bulb was stiff ,should of known better. On the plus side he said it put his 15 foot tinny on plane quickly and scooted right along .I agree 100 percent guys its my fault for keeping crappy hose assemblys hanging on the wall.Even though its a freebe motor for him I hate passing on problems so will do all I can to help him fix it.
