I close the valve and run it out of gas on the lake and put the motor on a stand in my garage. After a day or so I can see the slight amount of fuel hanging from the bottom of the carb begining to drip on the mounting bracket. The carb has been rebuilt with all new seals and gaskets, the best I can tell it is comeing from the between the air silencer and carb face as there is no gasket. Does this seem right ? Should i try a sealer between the two surfaces ? Any ideas ? -Thanks

I would say that's normal. Even if you ran it out of gas, there should be a small amount of residual fuel in the ports/lines etc. even though it wouldn't be enough to run the motor. Avoid putting any sealant behind the air silencer as it's unneccesary and would only make the next cleaning/re-build that much harder. Maybe wad up a piece of paper towel to catch the drips for the next day or so and keep an eye on it.

See, the thing is, with the fuel valve shut off, there should be no more flow to the carburetor to leak out. The fuel valve probably is not doing a perfect job of shutting off. Not much you can do about it, other than replace the valve.

Oh, and don't cram down real hard on the valve knob. I found out the hard way that only makes it worse when it damages the valve stem and seat.
