fuel leak

I have a 1966 evinrude 18 horse. It has a strange leak. doesn't seem to be leaking from the carb. Its wet underneath the motor and drains out the hole under the cylinder heads. I am not sure it its the fuel pump. I put new fuel lines in. The carb was just rebuilt. any ideas thanks in advance

Just a thought is it flooding? I believe the 18 has a weep hole?

weep hole out of the carb??? doesn't seem like the fuel should be that far to the rear of the carb. No its not flooding its runs fine. U would think if it has a fuel leak it would sputter but it doesn't miss a beat. I will give a little background the the boat. I bought it from a guy(well my father in law did..long story) that had it stored in his shed for about ten years. motor was fogged and all that stuff put in thermestate in and impeller carb kit and thats about it for now just trying to figure out the fuel problem

Weep hole may have been the wrong lingo LOL overflow is a better term I guess....Huh if it is running good then it is hard to say, I have heard of guys bending the floats and that carb will leak, week, overfow how ever you want to say it...look for cracks in a ny palstic pieces fuel pump etc.....I have put an air gun on the end of my fuel line and put some air on it to se if I can find a leak...i would use minimal pressure but it may help you track it down....Someone will be by this post to give you a better idea I am sure I was just trying to maybe see if there was an obviuous answer.

Is that hole a little round drilled hole in the lower cover? Sounds like a drain hole for any liquids that may collect. It could be coming from most anywhere and running back there.

yes the rear hole and its not leaking from the front because There is a drain hole in the front. Plus the paint on the rear of the lower cover is flaking up and its not like that in the front. Thanks tiller for the comments

Yea right on.....Some times the easiest fix is to look at what was just done, when you mentioned a carb rebuild it rang a bell in my head!! Good luck Keep us posted....Quick question do you have a manual for your engine? They are hard to be with out!

i looked at the carb last night it seems that it dry all around the carb. Who knows maybe it is coming out of the weep hole. I was wondering since the motor has been sitting so long that the gaskets in the fuel pump have gotten hard and cracked. Its not like running out it just dripping. I haven't been able to work on it as of yet been busy with work and home

Hey, sounds like you might be scareing it into a corner LOL...Just me but....a fuel pump rebuild is easy, cheap and a great peice of mind. If this engine sat for a while then yes by all means you should rebuild the carbs and fuel pump ! Being that your carbs are done (presumably correct) take all weak links out of the equasion, fuel lines new primer ball and make sure your float levels are correct! I am just spitting things out none of which a real expensive but all are critical to a worry free day on the water ! Either let me know or tell me to shut up LOL Good luck !

I changed the line from the tank to the engine then from that fitting to the pump and the line from the pump to the carb. My brother did the carb he teaches small gas engines thats why I its hard for me to belive that the floats are set wrong but there is always that possibility he say the fuel leak and thought it was the lines on the motor so like I said before I changed them and they were rotten. I am almost betting that it is the fuel pump but I havent' had time to get to a dealer to get it nearest dealer is 20 miles away and I work a 6 to 6 job so most places are closed. I looked on the site and I couldn't find the kit for the motor thanks a again tiller. This is my first boat so I am learning new things

figured out the problem after talking to a very knowlageable parts guy was a small tube from the bottom of the motor to the front of the motor it labeled as an and oil line in the repair manual thanks for all of your help tiller.
