4bbl Qjet. 5.7L After a few minutes running, I can shut it off and gas will seep out between the carb and manifold all around the primaries. I've replaced the gasket 4 times already in one day with no results. 2 Felpros and 2 Mr Gasket brand. Motor is only run on the muffs and is still cold when happening. I notice gas still dribeling in from carb when shut off also. Carb was just rebuilt by local MerCruiser dealer last August and ran good till winter. Then this happens. Any suggs?

Re: Fuel leaking from carb gasket

My buddies volvo done that last year where it was seeping a little around the bowl. Once he ran it for a while it stopped leaking. He asked a guy that rebuilds carbs and he told him the gasket was poss. dried out and once it got wet it swelled and thats why it stopped leaking. I dont know, but he ran all last year and it never leaked again. Like what was said above I would contact the shop and see what they have to say.

I called rebuilder and they said something could have happened over the winter with it sitting. They said if it ran good for a few months after we rebuilt it and something happened over the winter its not our problem anymore.

Q-Jets are known for leaky float bowls. There are core type plugs that will leak over time. Most rebuilders will epoxy over them to avoid future leaks. The base gasket will have no effect, you can change 10 of them, thats not the problem.
Have you checked all the screws that hold the top of the carb together?

Yup. Its wet all around the gasket and a tad wet where the accelerator pluger is, but nothing dripping down from there. Other then that the entire unit is dry. Its enough gas on shut off to partially fill the reliefs on the intake below the carb.
