Have Merc V8, 305 cu in, Model 228 engine that I replaced the quadrajet, last year, with an Edlebrock1409. It sure solved all the problems I was having with the old quadrajet. I've been seeing a lot about ethanol gas problems with carburetion. Question is, "should I leave the gas in the carb or cut off the fuel supply and run it dry? I worry about lacquer build up in the carb. What ya think?

Watched a Youtube video, "Ship Shape TV", about Formula X2 fuel additive to keep water separation of the ethanol fuel. Think I'm going with that in my boat and pickup truck because they seem to sit long periods.

Put stabilizer in your fuel on your last trip of the season, then you know it's mixed completly and in the carb. The winterize as normal. Don't drain the carb completely.
You are NOT going to have varnish problems over the winter. 4 or 5 years is a different ball game.

Is that "Do or Don't?" Here in Florida we have a lot of humidity problems dealing with condensation. I've seen some opinions that ethanol will start seperating in about 3-4 months if left standing. Hmmmmm I wonder.

Don't drain the carb. I will edit that.

You can read anything you want to hear on the internet, especially from the snake oil salesmen if you believe everything they say.
