I have a 1986 Mercury Black max xr2 150. I am needing to know what size of fuel line and primer bulb to use from tank to motor? I have seen 3/8 and 5/16 sizes but I have also seen 1/4 inch. I want to know what is OEM for that motor, not sure what is on it now.

3/8" ID with subsequent Primer Bulb to go with it. Use a Low Permeation Marine Fuel Line......

Wal-Mart actually sells a kit of fuel line and bulb by Seasense that is perfect. Make sure you get the LOW PERMEATION one and not the standard one that Wal-Mart sells....price will be about a $10 difference.

Get a genuine Mercury line and primer. The Aftermarket ones that I've tried will starve your engine just enough to burn it down.

From a current MARINE mechanic, certified by Mercury to work on Mercury and Mercruiser.... USE GENUINE!!! and the biggest you can get hold of. Aftermarket warranties don't cover consequential damage, genuine does.

My apologies to the original poster. I deleted the bickering which is not normal here.

Yes the older Mercuries were fuel hungry and there had been reports of using a small fuel line does starve the motor. I was advised by Clams Canino Hartwell Marine (a great Mercury mechanic IMO) to use the larger line.

Your BEST bet would be to consult with your local Mercury mechanic and just ask.

Thanks for your patience...... there will be no more bickering in this thread.

I believe the original line on the V6s was 3/8", anything smaller could starve the engine and cause denotation...
