Fuel line problems

I recently purchased a 1988 Evinrude 90 hp and have had some problems starting it. This is my first boat and I think I might have done something to the fuel line connection. I kept trying to start it and each time I did I primed the engine with fuel. After a couple of tries I noticed that the primer bulb was no longer getting hard, and when I looked at the engine I saw that the place where ther fuel hose connects to the engine (I have a quick connect there) just kept spilling out the fuel that was supposed to go to the engine. Is there a gasket of some sort where the line connects into the engine that I might have split? Could this be a different problem? Thanks for the help.

Re: Fuel line problems

Pump the bulb till firm and then stop, any more and ur flooding it. If you cant get it hard, there may be an air leak in the line or a faulty bulb. Try to listen for a leak . If pumping the bulb while running makes her pick up , you may want to look into testing the fuel pump.

YES, there is an O RING gasket on the fuel line connector that attaches to your engine. Try another hose and see if that fixes the problem.

It's nothing you did wrong - those fittings wear out over time - the o-ring is replaceable, but the fitting itself is inexpensive. Both the male and female fitting.

hightrim, if you can force fuel past your float valves and flood your engine with the primer bulb, you must be squeezing pretty dang hard...........just my opinion.......

The O-ring that you are talking about... is it in the female connection on the fuel line or the the male connection on the engine. Thanks for the help.
