Hi guys, I am new here, and after searching a bit couldn't find a concrete answer to my issue.
I have a 1974 Johnson 25RL74M Outboard (25HP) it will start and idle fine but will stall out when you put it in gear and accelerate. I have read a bit about this and the general concensus is that this is caused by a lack of fuel to the carb, the bulb, tank and fuel pump are fine, I just serviced the carb, the only thing is that I changed out the gas hose that goes from the pump to the carb. I couldn't find the same hose it had so I got one that is a bit larger, large enough that I needed to use metal screw hose clamps to tighten it the the nozels in the pump and carb.
The fuel line is working and doesn't have any leaks, my question is if this larger diameter line would create a problem that makes my motor stall. My thinking is that the greater volume of the hose is to much for the fuel pump and it can't get enough fuel presure to the carb when accelerating, if I accelerate slowly it starts reving up but it will die off and stall.
What do you guys think? could the fuel line be my problem?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Ed.
