fuel lines & hose barbs

Anyone have any good tips on getting fuel lines onto brass or aluminum
hose barbs? Something to make the job a little more plesant and smoothe.

Spit on it. Or wet it in some other way. Warm weather helps so would a heat gun. Careful with the heat gun if fuel is present.

I use a touch of petroleum jelly works real good.

Dip the hose in warm water.

EDIT: only the end you need to get on.
