Fuel mix and induction

Noticed today that there is a hairline crack on the crankcase upper on this motor as there was a small amount of water coming out of the fissure whilst the engine was running.

I noticed also that one of the vacuum pipes that connects to the carb is very close to where the crack is situated as per this pic

My question is could this fissure be the cause of bad induction / fuelling ? I have put on a temp repair of epoxy and will have another go at this motor once the epoxy has cured and if it now runs properly I will get the fissure ali welded by a pro..just dont want to go to the bother of doing this if this is not the problem.

What motor?Looks like it might have been frozen??
The bondo won't stick.As the motor heats and cools it's gonna break loose.
If it's a salt water motor and it's cracked.It might not be fixable.
Welding might be the only option but it might be so thin/weak it won't work.

If this is the same engine from your previous posts, you should really determine where the cracks are and how far they radiate. They obviously exist if you can see water coming out. But if there is a crack that affects the operation of the vacuum line, you may have found the reason why it will run with fuel in the bowl but not when having to suck all the way from the tank.

Hi Gerry

Yeah same motor..as jerryjerry has said the epoxy wont be a permanent repair but if the motor runs at all revs for say half an hour I will get the block ali welded..There is a very good marine welders not far from where I live.

Thanks for the input buddy.

LLB;

Certainly worth a try and hope that confirms the problem.

Good Luck and let us know what you find.
