Is there any way to remove the Ethanol from the fuel that is sold now. I understand it is terrible for older outboard models. My onboard gas tank is aluminum, it can't be replaced.

You can buy no ethanol gas. You might have to do some looking and it wills ell for a premium.

Where do I look? How do I know if it has ethanol or not?

says so on the pump. contains ethanol . good luck. most older motors are doing fine, we have had ethanol for years. usual fix is a carb cleaning, after use, several times and replacing old fuel hoses. adding seafoam to the fuel, help keep a clean carb clean.

They call it collector fuel around here. One of probably a dozen stations in town carries it.

Re: Fuel mixed with Ethanol?

I've been running E-10 for 3 years now. The upside of E-10 is that you don't have to worry about keeping your fuel system clean once you get it clean.

Ethnaol has no effect on aluminum fuel tanks other than to scour them clean of all the built up residue. The best advise I can give is to drain your tank to get all the residue water out of it before making the switch.

I thought my main tank was water free but got almost 4 gallons of water off the bottom when I drained it. Had I not drained the tank I would have had all kinds of problems with that much water in a tank with E-10.

As it was I plugged up one 10 um filter after running maybe 75-80 gallons of fuel thru the filter and never looked back. If you took care of your fuel supply in the past you should have no problems now.

BTW: A lot of States don't require labeling of E-10.

Missouri requires a minimum of 10% ethanol in all gas sold. I have had no problems with my motors so far

Re: Fuel mixed with Ethanol?

I have a 1954 Johnson 3hp that i purchased recently. I have cleaned the carborator twice. It ran great for a while but I cannot get it running for more than a few minutes at a time. I thought the fuel might be the problem. I rebuilt the carborator and replaced the packing for the high speed and low speed needles and of course the gaskets. The kit did not come with a new float. Could that be a problem?
