Fuel primer clasped

I am running a Johnson 88hp outboard 1989 model on a 17ft sunbird center console. Last year I had to buy a portable fuel tank and had no problems with it. This year my primer bulb on the fuel line is starting to clasp when I run full speed. I have to slow to idle remove the line from the tank and vent then reprime. Running at low speed I don't have any problems. I thought my carbs needed to be adjusted that it was pulling too much fuel but my carbs are preset. I can only adjust the idle which is at 650rpm. I have no blockage in my fuel line from the tank or filter. Do you have any ideas as to what this could be or should I just get another primer fuel line.

Re: Fuel primer clasped

If the tank has a separate vent, it has to be open when running. It's the little knob on top of the cap.

for got to say the vent was open. it could have bounced back in place. I will keep an eye on it. Going back out on the 4th with father-inlaw for some fishing time (have to keep him happy) will check to see if that is getting closed.

i have the 1988 88 and have had the same problem, clogged vent on built in tank. you may have loosen the cap a little to get extra air.

Same problem with one of my 2 tanks, it was the tank fitting where the hose connects, cheap fix.
