took my boat out on the weekend and it ran fine idling and mid throttle, once u once it up to full throttle though it stalled. I had someone pump the fuel bulb whilst i drove and it seemed to run better. I also noticed a trickle of fuel where the fuel connector meets the motor, so maybe the connector has a a bad seal?

Re: fuel problem?

What sort of fuel pump/pumps ? Integral (attached to carbs) or External ?
Sounds like fuel delivery. Don't think a leak at the inlet has much effect. My junction was loose and dripping, but the motor still ran fine.

Re: fuel problem?

You can tell by looking at the Starboard side of the carbies. The integrals are small housings with blue plastic chambers, and the fuel lines go straight into them. If there is a seperate pump, the fuel lines would go from the connector to the pump and then to the carbs.
What is your S/No ?
From S/N 2863739-8029514 Aust.. they had fuel pumps.. After that integrals
27 thru to 33 are integral parts.

http://www.dougrussell.com/partscatalog/images/MERMAR/56972/15.gif
http://www.dougrussell.com/partscatalog/images/MERMAR/74962/14.gif

http://www.dougrussell.com/partscatalog/images/MERMAR/56972/18.gif

Re: fuel problem?

I know for a fact that that connector is your problem. Whan the motor is running at WOT, it might not leak, but its taking on air. That rubber O ring inside it is dryrotted. Go to wal mart and buy a new one along with a pack of metal screw tight hose clamps. Just cut the line where it meets and add that new one on the end. Seal it up with your hose clamp. :D no problem...

Re: fuel problem?

thanks for your help guys , i think the connector is the problem as the rubber grommet inside it is perished and the new one i have just bought fits alot tighter. i decided to buy the fuel line, bowl and connector all at once as they sell a complete kit for $40 aus, as they look perished too.

Re: fuel problem?

I had a similar problem with my '79 70. I had the carbs rebuilt and I rebuilt the fuel pump with no change. The guys on this page diagnosed it as an air leak. I replaced the fuel line and primer bulb (quick silver yellow band) and still no change. I took it to my mechanic and he was able to find that one of the bleeder hose nipples was cracked. He replaced it and it runs like new or better. I don't know if this will help your situation but it is something cheap to check into.
