Hi guys took my boat out tonight after fixing the exhaust and impeller and find that it now runs cool and doesn't smoke wooohooo !!!!!! but it does stall out if throttled up to fast most of the time and once you get it up on a plane it will stall out after 30 seconds or so i am thinking about getting a carb kit it has a new fuel pump on it and i cleaned the fillter at the carb just after i got it running (did not run when i bought it) i think i will try to find anti siphon thingy also is there anything else i should think of ? oh yeah it's a 1980 four winns with a 470 merc with a 2 brl carb

Re: fuel problem?

First check for water in the fuel.Put on a waterseperating fuel filter(wally-world).If that doesn't work then start by feeling the coil.Too hot to hold it's bad. Then work to the points and cond.Jerry

Re: fuel problem?

Check fuel filters, fitting at carb, fuel pump, fuel pickup. Check valve. Check vent.

If still doing it than rebuild the carb. Accelerator pump might be bad.

The distributor is advancing correctly, right? Points set correctly? Timing is good? Dwell good?

Run it on a external tank.

post how you made out
