Fuel Problems

I have a 1996 112 HP Johnson. All at once I'm having a fuel delivery problem. The motor runs fine at idle, but once you go 1/2 throttle or WOT the motor stalls out and the inline fuel filter is empty. Once I prime the motor again it will start. I can move the boat about 5 mph without any stalling. Correct me if I am wrong but, I thought the fuel filter should be about 1/2 full with fuel while the motor is running. The fuel pump is new and all fuel and water seperater filters have been replaced. Is it possible that the primer bulb is faulty? It seems to run long enough to empty the fuel line from the primer bulb to the motor which is about 1.5 feet of hose. Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Re: Fuel Problems

If the fuel filter is filling with air, you likely have an air leak in the line between the filter and the tank. So the fuel pump is sucking in air rather than gasoline. Check the hose, water seperator and tank connection point, and last the tank pickup tube.

Don't operate your boat until you get it fixed (or are trying to see if it's fixed). Running a 2-stroke lean on gas will quickly destroy the engine.

I'm assuming you have a built-in tank. I'd look at the vent and the anti-siphon valve.

It could be the primer bulb, but I'd also want to pull the fuel pickup out of the tank and inspect it.Make sure any screen is clear, and the pickup tube is solid,no small holes. Before I'd reinstall it,I'd replace the anti-siphon valve.

DHP
