I've been having wot troubles lately, and after draining and cleaning the fuel tank out ( debris), the problem is better, but still there. I inspected the diaphram in my pump when I cleaned the load of dirt out of the screen, and although there are no tears or holes, the shape of it looked stretched out, like the bowl of a tablespoon...both sides... should a good diaphram be basically flat?

Obviously, when you put in a new one it is flat. However, with age they do take a set and will harden. I have seen some that still work well even though they are hard and wrinkled. But---Why take a chance? A new diaphragm only costs 3 bucks at your local Mercury dealer. I buy them by the 4-pak. Cheap enough to replace just for the hell of it.

Yes. Change it out. Good insurance and cheap too. I keep a spare in the boat after I had a new one go bad on me. Also, buy it from a dealer that sells lots of parts, some have sat on shelves for years and are not as elastic as new manif. ones.
