Fuel pump issue

I got my engine all back together and now I have a fuel supply problem. Even with a new fuel pump, I have to constantly squeeze the ball to maintain fuel supply. Is this a carb issue? I replaced the exhaust skirt gasket and It runs beautifully otherwise. Those obviously shrink when they dry out with age.

Check the hose for leaks.----Check pick up tube INSIDE the fuel tank for leaks.-----Fuel pump is drive by crankcase pressure pulses.----Check for issues there.-----Picked up 5 of these 9.5 HP motors in the last 2 weeks for parts / repair.----Great , light weight motors.

I’m at a loss. When I started today, the primer ball would get rock solid, and it would run for about 3 minutes and then air would start appearing between the fuel pump and carb and it dies. Then the ball wouldn’t get hard anymore, so I got a new one, and it still would not get hard priming. I also thread taped the connector at the fuel tank. Now it won’t even push fuel to the carb, and there is no fuel leaking anywhere. If I were to place the supply line directly in a fuel container, should it run??? I’m just trying to rule out a bad tank. I had no issue with the tank before. I also am wondering about the pulses that run the fuel pump.

which pump are u using the small square OMC of the bigger one .

try lifting the properly venting fuel tank above the engine and get it running....see if stays running by gravity feed of fuel to the carb via the fuel pump check valves...

if it runs ok lower the fuel tank below the power head ( boat floor !!! not a shop 2-3 feet below the pH. these small pumps can only pull UP so many inches.

report back

I tried both, they both do the same thing. I did place the tank in the boat, and no luck. I just don’t want to spend the money on a new fuel tank and have the same issue. Lol

connect a fuel supply directly on the carb inlet gravity feed it see if it runs ok

if not it is not a fuel pump problem !
