1987 125hp Force<br />Model-1258F6A<br />serial-1253<br /><br />Now that those are out of the way, here's what I have. Just installed a new stator and took the boat out this morning. The motor runs great and has a lot of power. The problem starts at about 32 mph. There is not enough gas getting to the motor and it starts to stall out until I throttle back to 30 to 32 mph. I have a clear case fuel filter just before the primer bulb and can see gas flowing through but the case is empty except for the flow. When I squeeze the bulb, it seems like the motor wants to pick up but the bulb stays flat. <br /> I looked through my manual in the fuel pump area and found a break down of my pump.I had changed the diaphragm and gasket earlier this year after noticing them being pinched and misformed. There is a booster spring and retainerin my pump. The manual dosen't call for one except in the 5 cylinder models. I put them back in when I changed gaskets. Could this be part of my fuel problem? Do I need to remove them from my pump? I have checked all connections on the fuel lines and they all look good. Don't think I have any leaks. Any and all advise will be appreciated.

"it seems like the motor wants to pick up but the bulb stays flat"<br /><br />If it is flat there is vacuum in the tank. Is there a vent hole in the gas gap? Try without the gas cap once and see if there is an improvement.

Bear, <br /> Thanks for the suguestion. Just went out to check the cap. The cap is solid but I have a vent on the oppisite side of the tank. Took the gas cap off and was able to blow air into the tank with it coming through the vent. Nothing seems to be plugged. Any other things to try, please let me know. Thanks for taking the time.

Thanks Bear, looks like I have some hoses to look at. I know that they have never been changed since I have had the boat. From looking at them they all look good except the one from the tank to the filter. Will look at the pick up in the tank also. What do you think about the boost spring and retainer being in a 4 cylinder when in the manual it says to be in a 5 cylinder.<br /> Thanks for your time and input. The other posts helped a lot.

Re: Fuel Pump Problems????? 1987 125hp Force

Ok, today is another day and I was able to dig a little deeper with daylight. I can't seem to find anything wrong with any of the hoses. No soft spots, kinks, flat spots, or hard turns out of the ordinary. I had read in an old post from last year from 12footer(if I remember right) that anti-siphons are put on gas tanks but don't think they are needed. I could hear it making noise(like it wasn't opening all of the way)so I pulled the pickup tube with siphon to check complete package. I poked at the ball and spring for a while until I thought it was loose enough. Put it all back together. Now I have no noise when I pump the bulb, but the ball and spring are still able to move and work. Could this be where my problem liles? Can I take the anti-siphon out if it is not actually needed? At last resort, I saw a post where someone installed a 12v inline fuel pump and cured a similar if not the same prob, would you recomend instaslling an inline fuel pump. I don't want to cover up a prob but I do want to get to WOT next time on the water.

The model number indicates a 1986 engine. The parts book does not show spring in fuel pump. When the fuel pump is right, it will pump plenty of fuel. I have did four of these pumps the past year, dont remember a spring.

Thanks for clearing up the year model for me, no one ever told me any different, including the one I bought the boat from. I am going to pull the spring out of the pump, since it is not shown in the manual for this model. <br /><br /> Thaks for all the advise I have received!!!!!!!!

Shouldn't the fuel filter/water separator be positioned AFTER the squeeze bulb for loading it?

Remove the hose from the hose-to-engine connector so you have an open hose. You should be able to start a siphon with the open end of the hose below the level of the gas in the tank by starting it with the fuel bulb. It should then siphon freely into a temporary container. If it doesn't, something in the fuel pickup system (fuel sock/screen, connections, antisiphon, or fuel lines) isn't flowing properly.
