i have an 89 johnson 110 hp. the fuel pump is leaking and i cannot get it pump fuel out of the top to the motor. i removed the hose. and pumped the bulb by hand and it doesnt push fuel through and if i turn the key over it doesnt push fuel through it. the motor will turn over fine but will not fire. would the fuel pump issue cause it not to fire? i have changed plugs cleaned the carbs put a new bulb in. can anyone help?

Re: fuel pump problems

Sometimes the answer stares you down,
the pump leaks and will not supply fuel, replace it.

Re: fuel pump problems

would it also cause it not to fire? do you think a rebuild kit would be the answer versus buying a replacement. it is a vro pump.

Re: fuel pump problems

Shoot some fuel into thw cyl, if it fires the pump is not working.
They can be rebuilt, results are said to be hit or miss.
I'd try it because the kit is cheaper than the pump.

Say...did you test the vac feed line which powers the pump?
It has a check valve at the block, or does it tap directly into the block.?
