I have an '86 260 Mercruiser Alpha 1. I changed the fuel pump on it because it was making an awful racket like bad lifter noise. After the install she fired right up and idled fine for 5 minutes and then started stumbling a good bit. I checked the choke, it was open, but I saw gas just being dumped down the primaries. Had the carb rebuilt at a reputable carb shop. Put on the fresh carb and had the same exact symtoms. The fuel is from late November with stabilizer added and smells OK. I put on a new 10 micron water seperator with the rebuilt carb. My question is it possible for the new pump to be putting out too much pressure? Its a new Quicksilver pump. And is it possible to get a pressure reading from the pump by just turning the motor over?
Thanks, Rich.
