Fuel Pump question

I have a 60 hp evinrude and determined I need new fuel pump. The local shop guy ordered a me fuel pump and is running well now but I did notice a few popping sounds when starting up( not sure if carb spit back or what). I brought up the fact that its rated for lower HP engine but he said I shouldnt be worried because its comaptible with 60 HP as well. Just curious if this legit info im getting or should I be worried about serious damage to cylinder etc, for starving fuel?

Thanks

IMHO Get the proper fuel pump. There's too many shady dealers out there !!!

You don't say what pump you got. Tell us the part number or post a picture or something. But more than likely the dealer is correct.

EDIT: "Sneezing" upon startup is pretty normal.

Provide the facts like a part # and we will likely agree with the dealer.

well it was more of a "pop" , like the sound you hear when you take the spark plug off and hear the cylinder hit TDC.

It's Fuel pump 0438555.

I've dealt with dealers and theyre often wrong with this model. The fittins on the crank case, carb fitting and fuel filter fitting dont match the barbs on the pump, I modified them with a check valve to connect to a larger hose that will actually fit crank case, and was able to tighten down the 3/8 hose down enough with hose clam for it to not leak.

That pump is listed for a 20 HP direct mount over the pulse port.-------Often the size of the nipples ( outlet and inlet ) will give a part a different part number.-----You must have a 2 cylinder 60 HP model from early 1980's.

Yep.. like i said earlier, just not sure how bad it is for the engine to run a pump rated that much lower in HP. It's a 3 cylinder 1996.. I'm thinking 0438557 is the proper pump.
