fuel pump questions

my boat has twin fuel/water seperating filters along with an auxillary electric pump with also a mechanical pump. what is the purpose of the elec pump and can you live without it. the boat is a 24ft searay with a 1992 330hp 7.4ltr motor. thanks for the help....kc

Howdy,

First of all you need to either obtain or download a service manual from the Adults only stick above in the main forum list..

Is that a Bravo? and is the fuel pump mounted on the engine or mounted on the raw water pump?

Your engine possibly did not come with 2 filters. Someone may have installed an additional filter and fuel pump. (the pump is a marine pump?)

not exactly sure what a bravo is. the motor is a 1992 330hp 454 gm marine motor. after looking at parts for this motor the only pumps listed are the mechanical type like i have, which is not mounted on the block but with the water pump off the motor. having trouble with the manual down load. the auxillary pump is history. thanks......kc

Well, it sounds like you have a Bravo. (it's the model of the drive .....the thing on the back with the prop on it...unless you have an inboard)


Also, it appears that you have the raw water pump-mounted fuel pump.

You should not have an electric pump installed. Someone has installed an additional fuel pump (and it's probably not needed)

If you want to download the right service manual for your engine....

After you determine the correct manual, simply "right-click" on the link and select "save-as" to your desktop or thumb-drive etc.

Use Adobe Acrobat Reader to open it. (double-click the file.....it's automatic if installed & you're using winblows)

It's a large file so you will need cable or DSL to get it. If you are using a dialup connection......well forget it. It will be too large a file to download with a dialup.

Take your thumb drive to a friend with a fast connection and get it from him (or her)

thanks again, i downloaded the manual and no mention of the elec pump anywhere. i have a volvo penta outdrive. excuse me if i sound ignorant here but this is the first in/out i have owned. i have had a few outboards. i will leave it with one fuel filter and one pump, less things to go wrong. thank you... kevin
