I have a 1987 60 hp mercury 3 cyl outboard apparently I need a fuel pump rebuild or replacement. It allows fuel through with the bulb but doesn't push fuel when trying to start. I went to remove it for inspection and the internals had all come loose, again. I rebuilt it in august but had constant issues.
I think I would prefer for the cost to just buy a replacement.
I see the original part number is 14360A14 and supposedly the updated is 14360A78. The only visible difference is the new number has a back plate. The original does not have this plate and bolts directly to the side of the motor.
The questions.
Does it matter which one I get both are available? Is the newer version better?
More importantly is it feasible to convert this to an electric fuel pump? If so, any recommendation?
Thanks all
