took my boat out the other day and all of a sudden as soon as its gets on a plane is looses power and slows down to a crawl. figured it had to be the carb so i rebuilt it. wasnt it. no place to get a fuel pump this late to fit the boat. found a universal pump 7psi max and ran it along side of my old one. from the fuel tank i have a 7 psi pump going to my filte then to my original pump then my carborator. it worked. planed out nicely for a few hours. tried to wot and backfire. couldnt get over thirty five hundred rpms without a backfire. now i did play with the timing to try to get rid of a ping in the motor. did i turn the timing back way to far and thats why the backire at higher rpms??? or is my little 7psi pump not enough to force gas into my omc 460ci causing the backfire, i want to go wot tomorrow. do i advace the timing or upgrade the universal fuel pump. why the backfire at 3500 rmps or higher.
