Can anyone help me find a part number for a fuel pump without a VRO? I have a 89 Johnson model # J175STLCEB.

Re: fuel pump

If all you want to do is eliminate the VRO and begin premixing fuel you do not need to remove the VRO pump and replace it with a fuel only pump. The fuel pump is part of the VRO so all you need to do is disable the VRO half of the pump and begin premixing. There are a bunch of posts here on how to do that.

Re: fuel pump

The VRO was disconnected when I bought the boat. The fuel pump is surging or sucking air from somewhere. It needs to be replaced so I was wanting to replace it without the VRO.

Re: fuel pump

ditchdigger, you can search the Ishopmarine website but I didn't see a pump that didn't have the vro as a part of it, might just have to replace w/original and do the same modification

Good Luck,
Mike

I'm not sure without being able to look at your engine, but you may have to use two fuel pumps like the pre-VRO, V-6's

Can someone check and see if part #438402 will be the correct pump without the VRO.

Re: fuel pump

As I posted before, you probably have to use two pump's, along with all the plumbing, or fitting's required. If you are worried about smoking this engine, you are well on your way if you don't do this correctly. Keep in mind, this engine requires a 3/8 feed line. Install the new up-dated pump. Install it, check flow, and oil consumpion as outlined in the manual, and you will be a lot better offl. Don't second guess here.

Re: fuel pump

I replaced my old VRO pump with a new one and replaced the fuel lines and bulb, but I'm still having a problem. The pump is still acting like it's sucking air from somewhere. When I pump the bulb with the motor running it stops surging. What do I need to check for next?

Re: fuel pump

Ckeck the anti-siphon valve in the fuel tank. The barb fitting coming out of you built in tank has a check valve in it. These can go bad. This would give you a fuel restriction. Did you use 3/8" hose with the proper size primer bulb, The bulb come's in size 5/16", and 3/8". If yhou could do a vacuam test on your system, it should not exceed 4-6 in.

I used 3/8" fuel line from the tank to the motor. The bulb came from the dealer. I will take the tube out of the tank and check it.
