FUel pump

So.. I recieved my Seloc repair manual last week, and to my dismay, it didn't have the diagram i needed. I have a 71 rude that i completely re-built the carb on, and disassembled the fuel pump for cleaning.The manual states that the fuel pump isn't supposed to be disassembled, and cannot be serviced in this way. In one of my not so swift moments, i did in fact take the pump apart and cleaned it.. But when i tried to barrel run it, i believe i put it together incorrectly.fuel wasn't making it to the carb, and hoses are good.. The "ports" out didn't look to be heading in the proper directions as compared to pics of a new one. SO.. My question is.. everything is very clean on the pump, and im looking for a diagram to show me orientation to re assemble correctly. Does such a thing exist?.. Or am i stuck buying another 50 dollar part. It is the smaller square type.. Thanks in advance..

Which 1971 Evinrude are we working on?<br /><br />What do you mean by<br /><br />

The "ports" out didn't look to be heading in the proper directions as compared to pics of a new one.

It's an 18 horse from 1971. The gas line connectors on the pump are what i refered to as ports..On the new ones the hoses were facing different than after my assembly..

The hoses should be facing the same way. There were some pumps that were not rebuildable (no parts available) then later they made the parts available. That may be why your manual doesn't show it as being rebuildable.

Bummer.. It came apart easily, and if i had a diagram it could go back together easily..only about 6 parts to it, and the spring behind it.. Maybe just trial and error then..I would hate to buy another new item for it if it's just a matter of putting it together properly. Thanks for the reply Dhadley..My better half is starting to question the little costs to get it running..they just don't seem to understand..

You can go here BRP, or ishopmarine.com. Find your motor, they both have a diagram of the fuel pump.

Shoe sale, clothing sale, day after the sale sale.. Just have to speak the language. Maybe if i tell her it's on sale. hmmnnn Down from 200$ to 49$ today only...until 3pm<br />Thanls for the diagram MCM.. that is helpfull. I may have gone further in than they show. OOps I will follow what's there, and if no dice. I will get the pump thats on "sale".

The pump repair kit is SIE-187823.. It shows the entire dissasembled unit in the ishop marine e cat. (though nothing for 18hp 1971 rude.. skips right over it to 20hp for some reason) Strange that my book does not show a re-assembly process..You can see how it might be tough to get it together properly. Maybe the kit comes with instructions, and i can save a few bucks that way..
