Any good ways to check to see if my fuel pump is my problem, was out this weekend and ran low on fuel. was headed to the fuel pump and it died.. after re-fueling it would not fire. I checked my fuel filter and even cranked with it off and no fuel. I think maybe fuel pump went bad. any suggestions

Thanks in advance

Re: Fuel Pump

Any particual motor ?
When some fuel systems go dry, it may take up to a minute of cranking for a mech pump to reprime everything.Electric pump systems need to be primed by by-passing the oil safety switch.
If its a carb, you can fill the bowl with some gas first.

Re: Fuel Pump

Disconnect your fuel line from the carb and direct it into a container. Disconnect the coil wire and have someone crank the engine. You should see fuel spitting out the hose into the container.

If not, your fuel pump is bad, line is clogged, filter is clogged, fuel pickup is clogged, or you don't have fuel in the tank! :D

Re: Fuel Pump

If you have a "cool fuel" merc fuel pump it will not "re-prime" without filling the fuel water seperator with fuel.
