on a 200 hp ocean runner. When I start the motor after squeezing the primer bulb. it quits running After the fuel runs ot of the carbs.. I disconected the fuel line coming out of the vro. and crank it over without the motor running. and no fuel squrts out.
is it a bad vro or does the engin need to be running for it to work.
thanks

Re: fuel pump

The OMS pump runs on crankcase pulses. If the motor is cranking, it should be mixing oil with the gasoline and pumping the moxed fuel to the carbs.

Re: fuel pump

Thanks
I thought it should pump out fuel with just cranking . Even though the motor is not running I will try to rebuild it. I think Iboats has a rebuild kit.
thanks again

Re: fuel pump

what year and model 200, verify so we know if it is OMS or VRO. if Vro 1 or 2, replace with OMS pump.

Re: fuel pump

I had the exact same thing happening to one of my 200s. Exact.
I obviously could keep it running by pumping the primer bulb.

I found that the torx head screws on the BACK side of the pump, (the air motor side), were slightly loose. Tighten the screws 1/8 turn past the contact point, evenly so you don't warp the housing, and see if it fixes it.

Worth a shot before you rebuild. Free.

When you start it, you should hear the pump click regularly at idle. Maybe every 10 - 15 secs. If it is not clicking, air motor is likely at fault.

Huh? 2001....Must be a Johnson then. And yes, it is hard to hear the clicks. But, it is a VERY GOOD way to determine fuel pump functioning. If it clicks, and no fuel, the fuel side is suspect. If it doesn't click at all, the air motor side is suspect. Every time it clicks, you should get a shot of fuel from the output to the carbs.

What o-ring? At the fuel inlet nipple?

Re: fuel pump

It was a 2/12" oring pump side I think. Had to remove the tork screws. The only place to find that size oring is at a hydrolic pump shop .50 cents.
It is a johnson.
Thanks
